A rare white poppy stands tall above the golden poppies surrounding it. This unusual wildflower contrasts with the golden tones of the other poppies and adds a note of striking beauty and individuality to the desert in the spring.

I've been involved in various art pursuits all my life, especially oil painting, but when I discovered how much more quickly I could convey an emotion with photography, I made a serious switch and have found the change engrossing. I like to think that I see the natural world more acutely when I take the trouble to photograph it. In particular, I enjoy looking at what is often taken for granted and overlooked yet seen all around us, the interior beauty of flowers and the knowledge of their ephemeral existence. I hope my photographs arouse in the viewer the same sense of beauty and wonder that I see. And part of that wonder is its very fleeting nature.
