A tiny, flying bee is seen against the large, white flower of the saguaro cactus. Has it just visited the flower and completed its job of pollination? This is a lovely springtime scene in the Sonoran desert of Arizona, and the low-growing arm of the cactus made it possible to see the action.
I've been involved in various art pursuits all my life, especially oil painting, but when I discovered how much more quickly I could convey an emotion with photography, I made a serious switch and have found the change engrossing. I like to think that I see the natural world more acutely when I take the trouble to photograph it. In particular, I enjoy looking at what is often taken for granted and overlooked yet seen all around us, the interior beauty of flowers and the knowledge of their ephemeral existence. I hope my photographs arouse in the viewer the same sense of beauty and wonder that I see. And part of that wonder is its very fleeting nature.
